National League South side Welling announced on Thursday that Oldaker would be playing for them in the 2021/22 season but the player took to social media to so it wasn't the case. He'll be back with Isthmian League side Hythe Town instead.
Welling apologised for the confusion on their Twitter site, saying: "Apologies DJ! Looks like we were misinformed. Best of luck for the season with Hythe Town."
Oldaker had tweeted: "I would like to make this clear, I have not signed with Welling United. This story is not true, I had already agreed to stay with Hythe Town. I wish Welling all the best in the upcoming season."
The midfielder linked up with Welling in February and was in the starting line-up in the their last game of the 2020/21 season, a 4-3 thriller against Ebbsfleet United on February 16, before the season was suspended.
Oldaker left the Gills in August 2019 after agreeing a termination of his contract, leaving with 33 appearances and five goals to his name at the club. Priestfield boss Steve Evans said at the time the player needed regular football that he couldn’t guarantee.
He went onto have spells at Billericay Town and Westfield before moving to Hythe Town, where he had previously spent time on loan. He joined Welling on February 5 last year, weeks after Lovell had been appointed manager.
