Loan defender Deji Oshilaja could be back training with the Gills next week.
The 22-year-old Cardiff City centre-back has been out for the last two months with an injury.
Oshilaja has been recovering in Wales but Gills boss Justin Edinburgh expects to have him back at the club imminently.
He could be back playing for the Gills in time to face Yeovil in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy next Tuesday.
Edinburgh said: "We are in daily contact and he will be back with us in the middle of next week.
"He is out on the grass down there and progressing really well. They are really pleased with him.
"We will probably be looking for him to play possibly Yeovil."
Oshilaja’s absence led the Gills to recruit Charlton defender Harry Lennon on loan.
Edinburgh wants both players to play a part in Gills’ drive for promotion and has requested a loan extension for Lennon.
"We want to keep him," said the Gills manager. "He has been outstanding since he came here.
"We have to err on the side of caution with Deji. He hasn’t played for a long while and it doesn’t mean he will be able to come back and play for 90 minutes.
"Where we are we will need four centre-halves to make sure we are covered. We would like to keep Harry, we have asked about him and we are just waiting to hear."
Lennon’s current deal expires after this weekend while Oshilaja is on a deal until January 3.
