Ady Pennock is continuing to hunt down new recruits.
The Gillingham head coach has been frustrated so far in his search as he attempts to bolster the squad which he inherited from departed boss Justin Edinburgh.
Pennock has limited resources to work with but is still confident of securing some bargains before the transfer deadline closes on Tuesday night.
A new defender remains high on his wishlist.
“I am always looking,” said the Gills boss ahead of the weekend visit of Shrewsbury to Priestfield. “It has to be right for us, whoever comes in, as a player and financially.
“Myself and the chairman are working hard behind the scenes and I don’t want to get anyone in willy nilly.
“They have to be right and financially it has to be right for the club. We have to do our homework first.
“They have to be good footballers but their attitude has to be right and their character has to be right.
“It’s a good changing room at the moment and I don’t want anyone coming in who is going to spoil it.”
It’s not just defensive cover that Pennock is chasing, though.
He said: “I am looking everywhere. I want competition all over the show if I can but we can’t get anyone in at the moment.
“We are talking. It is a bit frustrating but we will get some in."
