MEDWAY & Maidstone athlete Jennifer Pereira produced a powerful finish to clinch fifth place on her Great Britain debut at the Junior Cross Country International in Lisbon in Portugal.

The 17-year-old Ashford AC member, from Eastling, jumped 3.65m during an event organised for the national pole vault squad. Her 15-year-old sister Hannah Olson also jumped well and was fifth with 3.55m.

Whiteman, from Bearsted, near Maidstone, was out-sprinted in the men’s mile by Kenyan Elkanah Angwenyi, who won in 4:02.73.
With Whiteman squeezed into second in 4:02.78, with Welsh record holder James Thie (Cardiff AAC) was pushed into third place in 4:02.89.
