Paul Piggott resigns as manager of Hollands & Blair for personal reasons

Paul Piggott has revealed stepping down as Hollands & Blair boss has been on his mind for much of the season.

Piggott has resigned as manager for personal reasons - less than a week after the end of Blair’s first season in Southern Counties East which saw them finish second and win the Challenge Cup.

“Enough is enough,” said Piggott, who has been involved in management for over a decade having previously served at Lordswood and Faversham. “It’s a personal decision, not a club thing.

“I’ve been doing it for a long time. In the end I need to have some time out to recharge the batteries.

“When you do this job you neglect a lot of other things.

“I’ve been thinking about it for the best part of the season - little things were getting to me and that’s when I knew.

“It was always a case of wanting to wait until the end of the season, and I feel the timing is right now.

“For the first time in my life I think I’ve decided to put myself, my wife and my two children first. They’ve played second fiddle to football but my wife has always been supportive of that.”

Piggott has been instrumental in Blair’s rise through the Kent County League and then Kent Invicta League.

They have also had to improve their Star Meadow home and Piggott has been one of the key men behind the scenes.

“The last couple of years have been tough with all the work that we’ve done,” he added.

“I’ve personally done a lot of that work and it gets to the stage where you need to have a break, as hard a decision as it was for me.

“Don’t get me wrong, the pluses outweigh the minuses. I’m not moaning about the job. I’ve done it for a long time because I love it.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of it and maybe it will get to the first week in August and I will wonder what on earth I’ve done - but it’s been on my mind for a long time and this is how I feel now.”
