Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh still has places up for grabs in his starting XI.
The season is just over a week away but the manager is considering his options in several areas as the season opener at Southend next Saturday (August 6) draws ever nearer.
He said: “Obviously, there might be one or two that we would know to start but there is a lot of thought process between now and Southend. I am not clear as yet.
“We have another game Saturday (at Leyton Orient) and there were some good performances out there at Dartford (on Tuesday).”
His selection at Andy Hessenthaler’s League 2 Orient on Saturday, in Gills’ final pre-season game, may offer some clues but he isn’t ruling anything out.
He said: “People could read into (the selected team). I will be putting certain bodies in places where I think they are going to be the following Saturday but after Orient there is a week to go and we know a lot of things can happen in a week.
“It wouldn’t be the case that the team which starts Saturday would be the one that starts Southend.”
Edinburgh is hoping to be able to name Deji Oshilaja in his team at Orient this weekend. It will be the first appearance of the season for the on-loan Cardiff defender, who has been out with a knee injury.
One player who will miss the start of the season is new signing Scott Wagstaff.
The 26-year-old will be sidelined for a couple more weeks with a strain to his calf muscle.
