Gillingham are back in league action this Saturday at Portsmouth and it’s likely to be all-change again.
There were 10 new starters in the team that faced Ipswich in Tuesday’s EFL Trophy match following the win over Southend on Saturday.
Few of those who went in on Tuesday night did themselves any favours, however.
“One or two have done okay,” said assistant boss Paul Raynor.
“Connor Ogilvie had to play another 90 minutes because of numbers. He had a good game against Southend and he did very well.
“We said to the guys (before the match) ‘you will be disappointed you haven’t played in recent weeks, you may have knocked on the door and said why am I not playing, so here is your chance. Go out there and acquit yourselves and give us a problem in terms of selection for Saturday’.
“Unfortunately, given the performances individually and collectively, not too many people did it.”
Portsmouth only decided that the game was going ahead on Sunday, having had the option of a postponement because of international call-ups.
They’ve already had two games off though and are playing catch-up.
Kenny Jackett’s side will be fancied to do well this season but are a place and a point behind the Gills in 16th, albeit having played two games less. They have won their last two outings in League 1.

Raynor said: “They are in a false league position. They have picked up some great results as well and have a good bit of momentum.
“We will go into it with confidence from Southend, not from Tuesday, but most of the guys won’t be involved.”
