Manager Justin Edinburgh believes his Gillingham players have the appetite to turn their form around.
A third straight league defeat at Bristol Rovers dropped the Gills down to 18th in League 1 on Saturday.
Yet again, Edinburgh’s men took the lead at the weekend but were unable to close out the game, losing after conceding two late goals.
But despite another blow, the under-fire manager saw enough positive signs from the players.
“You need commitment when you are in the run we are in,” said Edinburgh. “I thought we shrunk a bit last week against Oldham, I didn’t see that this time.
“It is easy to watch and criticise but we were controlled, we grew into the game and we moved the ball well at times, I thought it was a very good performance.
“When you are in the position we are in, fight, character and spirit is what you need in abundance and I certainly felt we had that.
“I am hurting for the players. In terms of effort, commitment and performance they gave me that. If they continue to do that and play with that courage and energy then they will turn it around.
“It is becoming difficult but with a performance like that a result will come sooner rather than later.”
