Gillingham have added Wigan’s Leonardo Da Silva Lopes to their squad on a busy transfer deadline day.
Twenty-year-old midfielder Lopes spent four years at Peterborough United before moving to Wigan in the summer, for a fee thought to be close to 1m.
He has only played once in the league for Wigan, however, coming off the bench in their Championship game against Leeds United.
A move to Gillingham will give him the game-time he desperately needs.
Lopes was born in Lisbon but moved to England as a youngster and was picked up by Peterborough when he was just 14. He made his league debut for Posh in April, 2015 and went onto play 87 league games for them.
He is predominantly a central midfielder but has also played wingback for Peterborough.
His three appearances for Wigan this season came in the EFL Cup against Rotherham, a 2-1 home defeat against Leeds and an FA Cup loss at West Brom.
Gills boss Steve Lovell said: “Leonardo is highly thought of at Wigan and I have been chasing the deal for quite some time.
“He has already played 100 games in the league and I’m sure he will be a terrific acquisition for us.”
