The practice is paying off for Gillingham striker Vadaine Oliver.
Assistant boss Paul Raynor says they’ve been working hard on his finishing and the big man has been finding the net regularly in recent games.
Oliver’s quickfire double against Ipswich Town on Saturday followed a goal in each of the previous two matches, finding the net against both MK Dons and Portsmouth.
The striker’s goal tally is now up to 12, following the 3-1 win over Ipswich, and Raynor is delighted.
He said: “We have known about Vadaine for many years, we have come up against him in his Mansfield days and his Morecambe days and we always identified him as a real problem to deal with.
“He had a fantastic season with Northampton last year (helping them to promotion). We kept him on the radar and we knew there was more to offer from him, we knew he wasn’t just a big target man. He wins his headers but he is a quick for a big man and we are working very hard on his finishing.
“He drives us crackers every week, on the training ground, wanting to do more finishing and that is credit to him. He is now chipping in with some really valuable goals and also adds that physical focal point for us.
“He is horrible to play against as a centre half and anyone facing him will know they are in for a tough afternoon. He is adding goals to it and is a real threat.
“We have worked very hard with him in training, he is eager to work and learn, he is enjoying it and taking chances. He scored with two great finishes and we are delighted for him.”
