Gillingham have added to their midfield options with a signing from Brentford.
Welshman Dom Jefferies, 20, has joined the Gills on a permanent deal from the Premier League outfit although the length of contract has not been announced.
Jefferies is a product of the youth academy at Cardiff City and went onto sign for Newport County. He joined Brentford last summer and was the club’s B team player-of-the-season in 2021/22, scoring eight goals and making seven assists.
Despite his efforts with the B team, who he regularly captained, Brentford decided against promoting him to the senior side and released him.
On completing the signing, Gills boss Neil Harris told the club's website: "He is an exciting prospect that the fans are really going to enjoy watching develop over a period of time.
"He comes to us with great pedigree having come through Newport's first-team level before moving onto Brentford `B.`
"He's an energetic box-to-box wholehearted aggressive footballer that we think has got a lot of potential to develop with us, and we look forward to seeing him in a Gills shirt."
Jefferies, who follows Will Wright and Shaun Williams into the club this summer, commented: "I came down last week and looked at the facilities. I met Neil and David [Livermore, Gillingham's assistant manager] and it was a no-brainer.
"I can't wait for the season now. I'm happy and excited to get going.
"I think I am prepared and ready."
