Gillingham’s fine home form has led to an award nomination for manager Neil Harris.
The Gills won all three of their games at Priestfield in and Harris has been selected as one of four managers to be in the running for the Sky Bet League 2 monthly award for March.
It’s the second time this year that Harris has been nominated after the club's fine form in January was also recognised.
The judging panel said: “Harris is perfecting his future formula for the Gills with a 100% home record in the month, matching determined displays on the road.
“Safety seems to be within their grasp after four clean sheets contributed to 11 points from six games.”
The Gills beat Tranmere Rovers and Crewe Alexandra at home before an eye-catching win over promotion chasing Carlisle United last time out at Priestfield.
On the road the Gills claimed a point at both Harrogate and Stockport, following back to back goalless draws, with their only defeat in the month coming at Walsall.
It was a month that saw the Gills put distance between themselves and the bottom two in the division, seemingly doing enough now to have secured their League 2 safety.
Three other managers are in the running.
Northampton’s Jon Brady has managed to pick up 13 points from five games, including four clean sheets, despite numerous injury problems. Harris’ men play them on Monday (April 10).
One player who played in all five of Northampton’s matches during March - starting four of them - is former Gills youth player Harvey Lintott, who has just signed a new deal with the Cobblers.
He was released by the Gills last summer and has gone onto play 29 league games for Brady’s Northampton side this season in League 2.
Former Chatham boss Scott Lindsay is fighting a relegation battle at Crawley Town and picked up some big wins in March. They have collected 11 points from seven games, including vital home victories over relegation rivals Harrogate and Rochdale.
Salford City scored five more goals than any other League 2 side in March - and from only five games, bagging 10 points. Neil Wood's side currently occupy seventh place in League 2 and have been described as “free-scoring, powerful and inventive.” The Gills finish the season at Salford on Monday, May 8.
