Young striker Greg Cundle is desperate to prove he can do the business for Gillingham.
Cundle has been a regular goalscorer wherever he has been on loan but hasn’t yet been given a chance to show what he can do in the Football League.
He was handed another year’s contract this summer and he wants a piece of the action.
The 20-year-old said: “I want to be a part of the first team properly and make a name for myself next season.
“I don’t think the fans have seen what I can do 100%. The manager knows what I can do and he has shown confidence in me. I want to get on the pitch and score a few goals.”
The goals he has scored have so far come away from Priestfield, with loan moves to Bishop’s Stortford and Billericay last season.
The previous year he had spells at Margate, Tilbury and East Grinstead – impressing on each occasion.
He finally got his first Football League debut last season, at Rochdale. He had previously played for the first team at West Brom in the Checkatrade Trophy.
“They were good experiences but both were difficult games,” he said.
“Some players make their league debut when they are 3-0 up. We were losing 3-1 away at Rochdale with 10 men in the pouring rain!”
He also came off the bench against Fleetwood, another occasion which will be good for his experience.
“I went on at 2-2 and they went down the other end and score in the last minute,” he said.
“That was a horrible feeling but it will stand me in good stead.”
