Gills boss Justin Edinburgh was no fan of referee Carl Boyeson after Saturday’s showing.
Edinburgh bemoaned a series of decisions that hindered his side at Port Vale.
One major flash point came in the first half where Deji Oshilaja was put on a last warning after moment earlier being booked for a foul on Jerome Thomas.
It led Edinburgh to reshuffling his defence for the latter part of the first half and making a change at the break.
Edinburgh said: “We had a similar thing there last year where the referee seemed to be flashing a lot of cards and as small as the crowd was he seemed to be intimidated.
“We had to make the decision (to substitute Oshilaja) and take it out of the referee’s hands because I felt he was succumbing to making a bad decision. It didn’t help.”
Edinburgh was also unhappy that Max Ehmer was penalised for a foul that led to the equalising goal.
He said: “There were a lot of poor decisions that went against us.”
Vale's Jerome Thomas posted a picture of an injury after the game, proving he was fouled during one of the times when he went down.
