Gillingham will come up against their former player Scott Kashket this season after the striker joined a League 2 rival.
Kashket endured a tough year at the Gills after scoring just two league goals in 24 appearances during the 2022/23 season. He’s now joined Sutton United.
He was released this summer, a year after joining the Gills from Crewe Alexandra, where he had suffered relegation from League 1. He’ll be hoping for better fortunes at his new club.
The Gills head to Sutton for a midweek fixture on Tuesday, August 15 and the return match is at Priestfield on December 29.
Kashket started last season partnering Mikael Mandron upfront and scored early on, hitting the winner against Rochdale in his second game in August. His only other league goal came away at his old club Crewe.
Gillingham’s inability to score goals during the first half of last season led them to bring in Tom Nichols and Oli Hawkins during the transfer window and Kashket didn’t feature again after a substitute appearance at Swindon in late January.
Kashket - who enjoyed a five-year stay at Wycombe previously - has been on trial at Sutton and featured for them on Saturday in a friendly against Farnborough.
The Gills are still looking to add new strikers. They played League 1 Cambridge United in a friendly on Tuesday afternoon and were beaten 4-0.
