Former Gillingham winger Mustapha Carayol has found a new club.
Carayol was among the players released by Gills boss Neil Harris in the summer after an injury-ravaged time at the club. He’s now joined Burton Albion in League 1.
The winger managed 22 league appearances for the club last season, which included 16 starts. He missed much of the season run-in, however, returning for the final game of the season and coming off the bench in a 2-0 defeat to Rotherham.
He had arrived with much promise, after playing for the likes of Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest earlier in his career but struggled to shine with the Gills. He now has a chance to make a name for himself again.
Carayol has signed a short-term contract with the Brewers and is the second free agent signing for the club in a matter of days, having also added striker Sam Winnall to their ranks.
He said: “I'm happy to have the opportunity to be back playing football. Hopefully I can help the boys out.”
