Jack Evans hit a late winner for Chatham Town as they came from behind to beat K Sports on Saturday.
Infront of a bumper crowd, Chats twice went behind in the Southern Counties East Premier Division clash, but managed to clinch three points thanks to Evans’ 83rd minute strike.
The match was played infront of 539 supporters, Chats' fourth best home attendance of the season. Some of those in the crowd were there to support their second team, following the suspension of professional football in the country.
Those watching were treated to an entertaining affair, settled with a cool finish from former Gillingham player Evans.
Promotion-chasing Chatham, who were keen to bounce back from a midweek defeat to Corinthian, found themselves a goal down after 11 minutes and they only had themselves to blame.
Chats were caught out while playing the ball out from the back. Connor Pring robbed the ball off Mikey Dalton, after keeper Jordan Carey had hastily played the ball to him, and the busy K Sports midfielder laid it off for Regan Corke to open the scoring.
Some neat build-up play from Chats had gone unrewarded, with Paul Hayes missing a couple of early chances, but they levelled it up on 27 minutes, scoring after a scramble on the line. Captain Evans was quick to claim the goal.
Chatham were unable to build on that though and K Sports got their noses back infront eight minutes later, James Alderman beating the keeper with a shot after being slipped in by Pring.
Whatever home manager Scott Lindsey said at half-time worked, as Chatham became the dominant side after the turnaround.
Rob Denness put a good chance wide before Hayes headed home on 55 minutes, converting a cross from defender Justyn Roberts, who had done well to side-step a defender before delivering a ball into the box.
Dalton and Hayes again went close for the Chats as they pressed for a winner and it eventually came late on, with Evans showing great composure just inside the box, taking a touch before firing home.
Victory moved Chatham up to third, a place ahead of Sheppey United, after they were held at home by Glebe.
