Ricky Rose grew up fighting alongside the likes of George Groves and Billy Joe Saunders and now he wants a piece of the action.
The 25-year-old light welterweight is the latest hometown fighter to be included on the bill for the boxing show at Medway Park on March 14.
Rose made his professional debut last April, beating Danny Donchev over four rounds but setting up a personal training business meant he’s been unable to follow that up.
But with his business established, Rose is ready to return to the sport he loves.
“I had been a long time waiting to be a pro,” said the former Temple School pupil.
“I boxed for England seven times as an amateur but in the last camp I was the oldest there by some distance. I felt like a grandad.
“As a 13 and 14 year-old I was on camps alongside George Groves, Anthony Agogo and Billy Joe Saunders. They have all gone and been successful.
“This has been a long time coming and now is a good time for me. I certainly didn’t want to rush into it and come unstuck.”
Rose, who is managed by Johnny Eames, moved to Medway as a 10-year-old from Stockport and has been taught to box by his father, Keith, who is still part of his training team.
