Striker Dominic Samuel is set to miss Gillingham's promotion clash with Walsall.
The 21-year-old striker has been back with parent club Reading to receive treatment on a knee injury.
Samuel was out for several months at the start of the current campaign with a similar injury and the Championship side want to make sure he is 100% before resuming his stint with the Gills.
It means he will be missing when Walsall visit Priestfield on Tuesday night.
Confirming the news, boss Justin Edinburgh said: "Tuesday is probably too soon but we are hopeful of next week.”
However striker Cody McDonald came off the bench at Sheffield United on Saturday for his first appearance since December, when he broke his foot at Millwall.
Bradley Dack was also back on the pitch, playing the last few minutes in his first showing since pulling a hamstring in the game against Chesterfield over a month ago.
Edinburgh said: “I was pleased to see them, certainly Cody. It has been a tough time for him this season. He got some good minutes and it’s pleasing for Bradley to get back out on the pitch."
Dack replaced Fulham loanee George Williams (hamstring), who had gone on as a substitute himself for Jake Hessenthaler, who lost a tooth in the first half.
