Gills boss Justin Edinburgh has spoken of his delight at extending the loan deal for Dominic Samuel.
The 21-year-old Reading striker has scored four goals in his nine games so far with the Gills.
He has been a big hit since signing from Championship side Reading and scored a brace in the recent win at Millwall.
Edinburgh said: “We have secured his services up until the end of this month which is fantastic.
“Dom is continuing to regain his fitness and playing very well here and we are delighted with that.”
Reading had been in two minds about letting him remain at the Gills. He was a player in their first-team plans before injury led to him falling down the pecking order.
Edinburgh said: “They have seen him play. They can see him vastly improving but they are mindful that he needs to play.
“We are delighted that they have allowed him to stay with us for another month. It is great news for us and himself.
“In the summer he had a real big part to play there. He picked up an injury and someone’s misfortune is someone else’s gain. Other people took their opportunity at Reading.
“Doms will work his way back because he is a talented player. While we have him here we need to make the most of that and if we can continue to develop him then Reading sees that as a massive plus.”
His new deal runs until January 28. Edinburgh could look to further extend the loan at the end of the month.
His initial loan deal expired after the 3-0 win over Bradford last Saturday.
Samuel is available to play for Gills in the televised trip to Wigan on Thursday night, kick-off 7.45pm.
