Gills chairman Paul Scally declared himself satisfied with the outcome of the John Egan transfer tribunal.
Championship side Brentford were told to pay £400,000 upfront for central defender Egan and another £100,000 with potential add-ons, plus 20% of any future profits.
Mr Scally said: “I thought the minimum we would get was half a million and we have got that if you add the games on.
“We wanted a million but we knew we wouldn’t get that. They wanted to pay £200,000 then that went up to £300,000 with no sell-on or add-ons so I am okay with that (tribunal figure).”
Mr Scally is currently recovering from heart surgery but will be at Bolton on Monday to see the Gills in action.

A tribunal was needed after the Gills and Championship side Brentford were unable to agree on a figure.
The amount awarded will go into the club’s coffers and the profits on Egan will at least balance the books.
Mr Scally said: “It reduces the losses and goes into part of our trading.
“We budget for player sales of half a million. We have to achieve the budget and if we don’t then we make a loss.
“Every year we put in half a million for player sales and if we don’t make any, get any fees or compensation, then we won’t hit our budget.
“Some years we do well and other years not. That is what we try and achieve.”
