Gills midfielder Josh Pritchard has been told to find a new club this week.
Pritchard has been available for transfer since the end of last season and while the Gills headed for a six-day training camp in France, Justin Edinburgh has given the former Manchester United and Fulham midfielder the task of finding a new club.
“I have made it clear that Josh’s future lies away from the football club,” said the Gills boss.
“Josh is not going to be involved in the travelling party and I felt it would be good if he could try and this week secure his future away from the football club.”
Goalkeeper Stuart Nelson did head to Le Touquet with the rest of the squad, despite also being on the lookout for a new club. He pulled off a couple of great stops in the pre-season win at Tonbridge on Saturday.
“He is a goalkeeper, he has to make saves,” said Edinburgh. “I have no problem with him. I told him I can’t guarantee him the number one spot and he wants to be no.1.
“We have discussed it and feel his future may be away from the club, but I never close the door on anyone, you can see that.
“Josh has been involved (playing last week at Folkestone) and Stuart has been involved in two halves. He will probably travel with us to France. There are always opportunities if people can prove to me they are worthy, simple as that.”
The Gills squad are training in the French resort of Le Touquet and will play Amiens SC on Friday night, in a game played behind closed doors. Gillingham have advised fans not to travel to the game.
