Stevenage boss Teddy Sheringham has registered himself as a player on the eve of their FA Cup game against the Gills.
The 49-year-old – a former team-mate of Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh – is set to play for the League 2 club in a Herts Senior Cup game this week.
Whether he would be bold enough to face the Gills at the weekend is uncertain.

Edinburgh, who played alongside Sheringham at Tottenham, said: “That would be interesting. It might be a little bit late for me to come back though!
“You do what you feel is right for yourself and your football club. If he feels that is what is required that is the decision you make.”
Asked whether his defenders would be able to handle the former England striker, Edinburgh said: “I would be quite disappointed if they didn’t.”
Edinburgh, 45, and Sheringham have recently played alongside each other for a Spurs vets team and the two will be in opposite dugouts at the weekend for the FA Cup first round match.
Sheringham’s Stevenage are currently struggling at the wrong end of League 2 and lost 5-1 to Oxford United in their last game.
Regardless of whether Sheringham names himself in the Stevenage team at the weekend, Edinburgh is looking forward to the challenge against his old team-mate.
Edinburgh, who won the FA Cup in 1991, said: “I know what he was like as a player. When you win the Champions Leagues and play for England, you don’t get to there by being soft or not having to endure tough times. He will come through it.
“I will look forward to seeing him and meeting up with him and hopefully putting one over on him!”
