Liam Nash has been challenged by Gills caretaker-boss Steve Lovell to show what he’s made of.
Lovell left Nash out of the squad for the trip to Peterborough on Saturday, but it’s certainly not a closed door for the 21-year-old, who had been scoring regularly in non-league before moving to the Gills in the summer.
Lovell said: “I had a word with Liam and told him I needed a bit more out of him.
“He has come from semi-pro, he is a good lad, I like him a lot and he put his hands up and said, ‘yes, you’re right’.
“I said to him, ‘come in Monday and show me what you can do’. He has to knuckle down and really have a go. I want him around the first team because he is a talent and he gets goals.”
Both Nash and wide-man Jesse Starkey missed the cut at the weekend.
“The sooner they get up and running then that’s another couple of bodies,” said Lovell.
“Jesse did well in the week (against Phoenix Sports in the Kent Senior Cup) but he was just unfortunate to miss out.”
