Goalkeeper Jack Bonham was due a clean sheet, said boss Steve Evans.
The Gillingham stopper had a great game in the 1-0 win against Accrington on Saturday, denying them with a number of quality saves.
It was his fourth clean sheet in the league this season.
“Some of his saves were top class,” said Evans, who signed the keeper in the summer from Brentford.
“Their goalkeeper has made one or two smart saves himself, but Jack has made two or three saves at the right time.
“John (Coleman, the Accrington manager) will be disappointed not to have taken advantage of their chances but the keeper makes a name for himself for producing what he did.
“I said to him at the end, ‘you have deserved a clean sheet for a week or two’, but the defending infront of him had not allowed him to get that, but he did well because the 10 infront of him did well as well.”
With a young defence helping to protect Bonham, including teenage full-backs, Evans was pleased. He said: “They are starting to find a bit of form, they are starting to put bodies on the line and make good decisions and that has helped us.”
