Paul Belsey produced a once in a lifetime batting performance to light up Rayners Meadow last Saturday.
Belsey, from Gillingham, hit six sixes off a single over for High Halstow’s 1st XI in their home match against Blackheath Wanderers City of London in the Kent Regional League, Premier Division.
The 34-year-old scored a six off every ball from Mayank Patel and returned to bowl the Blackheath player out as the visitors crashed to a 122-run defeat.
High Halstow’s top order batsmen Benjamin Bowles (107) and Pakistan overseas man Hamad Ul Hassan (90) produced fine innings but Belsey’s blistering final-over display topped the lot.
"I planted it in the allotments and I’ve no idea if they found the ball again because I was too busy celebrating with the other batsman" - Batsman Benjamin Bowles
“I was surprisingly calm until the last ball,” said Belsey, who has played for High Halstow since he was 13. The first six was caught by the wind and I hit the second a bit further. I caught the third one well, it was a proper cricket shot.
“A couple just missed the skate park and there was a lot of cheering every time one went over. But as I prepared for the final ball, there was a hush around the ground. I felt the pressure then.
“The first five balls had been outside the off-stump but the last was a full toss. I’m not sure if he was trying something different to get me out or he wanted me to do it.

“It’s up there with the best things that I have done. I’ve certainly not done anything like it before. As a bowler, I am just usually happy with the odd five-fer.”
Belsey ended the innings unbeaten on 41, off just eight balls, as High Halstow made 299-6 in the 46-over match.
Patel, who was gracious enough to pose for a picture afterwards, made 17 in reply with the bat but gloved a ball from Belsey to wicketkeeper Joe Murray. His side were all out for 177.
