Andy Smith announced his return to the Invicta Dynamos line-up with an assist in the side’s 4-3 home victory over a much-improved Peterborough Islanders in ENIHL South 1 on Sunday.
"It was difficult at first after not playing for a while and having had only two nights of training," said Smith. "But the atmosphere in the locker room is great, the quality of the squad is excellent and I’m looking forward to paying the fans back for their support."
Martin Melichercik opened the scoring with a trademark blast before Milan Kostolny’s measured finish put Invicta 2-0 up at 12.11.
The visitors rallied to level the score before the first interval through Jason Buckman and Ross Mackintosh, but early second period markers by Melichercik, assisted by Andy Smith, and AJ Smith, restored the two-goal cushion.
Peterborough’s attempts at overhauling a second two-goal deficit were restricted to player-coach Jesse Hammill smashing a section of plexiglass, Buckman losing a one-punch fight to AJ Smith and Steve Maile’s last-minute goal, as Invicta extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to eight games.
