Snow in Kent postpones football matches and cancels parkruns, hockey and rugby games

A number of sporting events scheduled to take place this weekend have been cancelled.

Gillingham's League 1 game at home to Rotherham on Saturday was one of the first events to be postponed due to heavy snow.

Ebbsfleet's National League home match on Saturday duly followed - as did Maidstone's trip to Solihull Moors - with matches involving Welling and Dartford also postponed in National League South.

Most games in the Bostik League and Southern Counties East League had been postponed by Friday - while the Kent County League called off all their matches scheduled for this weekend on Thursday.

Even 3G pitches could not beat the snow - with all events at The Gallagher Stadium cancelled until Sunday morning.

However, National League Dover are hopeful that their game at Crabble against Leyton Orient will take place as scheduled on Saturday.

A number of the popular Saturday morning parkruns have been cancelled across the county.

Rugby matches, including promotion-chasing Medway's home clash with Brighton, have also been postponed while the majority of hockey matches in the county have already been postponed.

If you do need a sporting fix for the weekend, then why not pop down to see ice hockey action as Invicta Dynamos host Streatham at Gillingham Ice Rink on Sunday, face-off is at 5.15pm.
