Invicta Dynamos’ player-coach Karl Lennon reached a milestone mark on Sunday in the same play that saw their young prospect claim one of his own.
While Lennon’s 100th assist for the Mos led to Sam Oliver’s late goal in a 9-3 win over Milton Keynes Thunder on Sunday, youngster Daniel Alabaster notched his first assist to start the move.
Lennon accepted his own achievement with modesty as he highlighted the big moment for a young man who he has high hopes for.
“It’s a little milestone for me and probably took a little too long to get to but I will take it,” said the head coach.
“The goal was scored with about 30 seconds left in the game and more importantly was that the play was started by our young 16-year-old lad, Daniel Alabaster, so he got his first assist and my 100th at the same time.
“That was nice moment for him and I am really happy for him after travelling up (to Milton Keynes). He’s played now maybe 10 games for us, he has great attitude, he’s a really good kid and really deserves that he got a point.
“Attitude is 95% of the sportsperson really and he has a fantastic one, I am sure he has a bright future ahead of him and I was very happy for him.”
The Mos were playing their final game of the regular league season in NIHL South Division 1, beating bottom side Milton Keynes Thunder comfortably in the end after conceding early on.
Lennon said: “You have to be professional and our first minute of the game was not that, we maybe still had our bus legs in us, we were slow to start, it took us a few minutes to get into the game and we had conceded pretty much instantly on the first shift.
“Thankfully Tom Soar got us a goal to settle us a bit and then it was a one-way street.”
Owen Dell put them in front and Lennon got on the scoresheet to make it 3-1 to the visitors by the end of the first period.
Oliver Bronniman, Stanislav Lascek, Dell and Mads Thune scored in the second period, while Thunder got a couple back, leaving the Mos 7-3 up.
Bronniman got the eighth before AlabastEr and coach Lennon created the final goal of the night.
Lennon said: “We had poor five minutes in the second period when they got a couple of goals, one on the powerplay and one when we were careless in their zone, we got broke on and they scored directly off it.
“But generally speaking the finishing was good, there were some nice passing moves throughout the game and it was a nice way to finish the league season off.”
