Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has called on the club’s supporters to raise the volume at Priestfield.
Stimson challenged the fans to show their passion after revealing his shock at the subdued atmosphere inside the stadium on Tuesday night, when Gillingham beat Darlington 1-0 with an injury-time penalty from Simeon Jackson.
The Gills boss said: "4,500 were there - It didn’t sound like that.
"I found one decision really strange. You take someone off (Dennis Oli) and they start singing his name.
"Why not sing his name when he’s on the pitch playing? That would make him feel a lot better. Not when you actually take him off and he’s sitting down.
"Everyone is going to be needed as we have some real tough games coming up. Being an ex-player, it didn’t happen to me a lot because I was a full-back who was probably booed more than cheered, but when you do hear your name shouted and called when you’re playing it doesn’t half feel a lot better.
"If the fans can learn anything, it’s cheer the boys at the start. Jacko has the winning goal and 30 seconds to go they start cheering his name. The kid is on 15 goals.
"I don’t know the last time someone scored 15 goals for this football club but I’m sure he was cheered and appreciated more than the little man is.
"Guys like this don’t come around often and people should enjoy them when they do. One day he’s going to leave, without a shadow of a doubt, because he deserves to play at a higher level, so while he’s here enjoy him."
