Gillingham's promotion charge was rocked by Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Grimsby, but manager Mark Stimson is refusing to panic.

The Gills went into the game second in League 2, but dropped to third after the Marriners ended Gillingham’s eight-game unbeaten run, although Stimson remains confident.

“There are no major problems yet,” he said. “Let’s just keep the nerve and keep the belief.

“These players will give everything they’ve got. Between now and the end of the season we’re going to win and lose games. We just need to make sure at the end of it we’ve got enough points to compete either for automatic promotion or the play-offs.”

The Grimsby defeat was Gillingham’s first in more than a month and Stimson is keen for his players to move on.

“The players need to forget about that one as quick as they can."

He added: “If they have anything about them, and I know they have, they’ll want to go out next week and prove it was a one-off."
