Striker Lewis Walker has joined Gillingham a day before the new League 2 season begins.
Walker will need no introduction to his team-mates having spent the opening few weeks of pre-season on trial at the Gills before heading off to AFC Wimbledon to try his luck there. Gillingham are away to the Dons this Saturday.
The hard-working frontman, 24, started out at Derby after moving from Ilkeston but in the past two seasons had been playing football in Italy.
Walker - son of former England defender Des Walker - spent a season with Serie C side Como before moving to Serie D side Athletic Carpi last year.
He returned to England keen to reignite his career in his own country and he played 45 minute against Folkestone Invicta in Gillingham’s opening pre-season game. He had another half hour against Dover Athletic but then moved on for a trial at Wimbledon, playing in a couple of games for them.
The length of his deal at the Gills hasn’t been announced.
He’s the second signing to have been confirmed today (Friday) following the return to the club of experienced keeper Glenn Morris.
