Gillingham FC Supporters’ Club has urged fans to get right behind their team this weekend for a “must-not-lose” match.
The Gills haven’t won a game since the middle of December and find themselves just nine points above the League 2 relegation zone.
Fans were hoping for a promotion push this season but instead, the team heads into the final two months of the campaign fighting off the threat of relegation.
Weekend opponents Morecambe are currently second from bottom in the table and could close the gap to Gillingham to just six points with a win at Priestfield.
Bottom side Carlisle United won on Thursday night, boosting their own hopes that they could climb to safety. The Gills need to end their winless run to pull clear of any potential relegation scrap ahead.
The Gills lost 2-1 to Fleetwood in the week, extending the run without a win to 13 games, and ahead of their weekend clash the GFC Supporters’ Club have issued a rallying call for supporters to get behind their team on Saturday.
They say: “This Saturday Gillingham entertain Morecambe in a game that most supporters feel is a 'must win' match - or most certainly a 'must not lose'.
“With Gills nine points above Morecambe and the two relegation spaces, a win would stretch the gap to 12 points and relative safety - but an unthinkable defeat would see The Shrimpers close to within 6 points of a Gills' side who would then be 14 games since they last recorded a win.
