Foul-mouthed insults were fired at Gillingham boss Peter Taylor from the sidelines after Saturday’s defeat to Chesterfield.

The Gills lost the League 1 match 3-2 at Priestfield and Taylor was far from happy at the language used towards him.

He said: “I find that disappointing and with no respect.

“They are not saying nice things. If I’m honest, they are saying awful things and I am better than that and not happy about it.”

Taylor chose not to react and instead stood and listened, fully aware that a confrontation could cost him in the pocket.

Last week Leicester boss Nigel Pearson was hit with a £10,000 fine and a one-match ban after confronting a supporter who directed abuse at him.

Gills assistant boss Andy Hessenthaler did react but Taylor said: “Unfortunately, as a manager, if you go and fight back, you get fined.

“You have to take it and listen to it. People give you bad signals and swear words, tell you unkind things. I am not impressed with that.

“Emotions were high with us all but it doesn’t mean I am going to disrespect people. You work hard all week to set your stall out, to get your team right and you have to listen to that coming off the pitch. It is wrong.”
