Michael Doughty’s loan spell at Gillingham could be extended.
Boss Peter Taylor has been delighted with the midfielder’s impact.
Doughty turned in a man-of-the-match performance against Crawley on his Gills debut just a day after completing a one month loan deal from QPR.
Taylor will now ask R’s boss Harry Redknapp if he can keep hold of the player until January.
“We did (the initial deal) very quickly for a month, just to see how Michael would fit in,” said Taylor.
“To me he would fit in perfectly straight away and if he is interested in staying until January then that’s what we would like to do. I am hopeful there is a chance of that but I have to go back to QPR.”
The midfielder was taken off with cramp on his first game but he enjoyed the experience.
Doughty said: “I was pleased to be able to contribute positively to the team. I haven’t seen any of the other performances but I thought the lads showed that they are good players and can compete at this level. On the balance of play we were a bit unlucky not to get three points.
“There is real quality here and on Saturday we showed that we are capable of scoring goals and creating chances which is a positive for any team. You would rather be missing them than not creating them.
“We need to be more difficult to play against in certain periods of the game and as a team there has been a lot of injuries and changes. I feel there is the quality there to improve the league standing and hopefully go on a run.”
