Manager Peter Taylor is determined to turn around Gillingham’s fortunes.

And he insists that criticism from the outside will have no influence.

A 1-0 defeat last weekend at Fleetwood, which saw the Gills drop to joint bottom of League 1, left some fans questioning his position.

He said: “That is part of it (the job) and I understand people calling for that.

“I understand that because one win in 12 matches is not good enough – it’s a results business. It is certainly not going to affect me.

“I am determined to turn it around and do a Newcastle. People were saying they were never going to win a match but all of a sudden they’ve won four on the spin.

“We are capable of doing that but have to get that first win.”

Taylor has been hampered by injuries all season, often denying him key players for long periods.

Both skipper Doug Loft (Achilles) and vice-captain Danny Kedwell (knee) have spent much of the campaign dealing with injuries.

Taylor said: “I don’t think we have had a great deal of luck, certainly not on team selection, because of players getting injuries."
