Peter Taylor has backed QPR boss Harry Redknapp’s suggestion that the authorities should consider temporary substitutions.
Temporary subs are used in rugby to replace those suffering blood injuries, keeping the full quota of players on the field, rather than the injured player’s team being at a disadvantage while treatment is administered.
Redknapp raised the issue after he was forced into replacing Sandro just 11 minutes into last weekend's game against Southampton. The player was, according to Redknapp, fit to return by half-time.
The QPR boss said short-term replacements was an idea “worth looking at” and Taylor welcomed the idea.
“I can certainly see a value to it,” he said.
“We had Brennan Dickenson receive a cut to his chin (last) Saturday and their players were telling the referee and he was made to go off.
“For a blood injury I can understand what Harry is saying. On Saturday the Sheffield United doctor was marvellous and he did what he had to do.
“Brennan needed glue at half-time, but you can imagine going to a few places where managers I know, they would have an influence with the doctor and tell him to take his time. But if you have a substitute regarding the blood then there is no pressure.
“I have seen two defenders collide defensively and the team are defending a corner and both have to come off. I can understand it when shocking things like that happen.”
