Ruthless Chatham Town are the highest scorers in the country - averaging more than five goals per game.
Scott Lindsey’s side have scored 54 goals in just 10 Southern Counties East matches.
Nobody in English football - professional or non-league - can get close to the levels set by Chats.
The league leaders have bagged 21 in their past three games alone, beating AFC Croydon 8-3, Canterbury 7-2 and Erith Town 6-3.
Captain Jack Evans (13) is the top scorer in the division, with Dan Bradshaw (11) and Ryan Hayes (9) second and sixth respectively.
Lindsey, the former Forest Green assistant manager, said last season he was asking his side to play the type of football never previously seen in the league.
Their passing game is great to watch and now they can’t stop scoring.
“At the end of the day, goal difference is worth an extra point,” said Lindsey, whose team have conceded 18 goals.
“For argument’s sake, if we win finish on the same points as the team below us, goal difference wins it for us.
“We’ve got players all over the pitch who are capable of scoring.
“Reece Butler, my centre-half, is on five or six, the wide players are chipping in, the midfielders are scoring and the front boys are delivering.
“We’re playing some really fantastic football.
“We do a lot of work on the training ground and a lot of analysis stuff in the classroom, and the team is coached well in terms of how we want to play.
“A lot of detail goes into it and it’s taking shape now. It’s looking how I wanted it to when I came in.
“The way we play, we try to be efficient with every pass.
“You see teams play out from the back, and it’s attractive to watch, but we want to be ruthless with it and fast-attacking at the same time.
“We don’t just pass it for the sake of it, it’s because we know we’re going to hurt teams in certain areas.
“We work on it a lot in training, position, distance, passing lines, moving people into positions in order to be efficient moving forward.
“A hell of a lot goes into it and full credit to the players for taking on board what we’ve tried to teach them.
“They’ve got to grips with it brilliantly and they’re performing to the level I’ve always wanted.”
Chatham would break the 200-goal barrier over the 40-game league season if they maintain their current rate.
That’s some ask but they will surely be well into three figures come the end of a campaign they hope will end in promotion to the Isthmian League.
“I don’t really think about records,” said Lindsey. “We just concentrate on the next game.
“If that gets us into a position to break some records, great, but we also know that football has a habit of kicking you when you’re going well.
“We’ve got to remain positive and professional, do as well as we can, and try to keep our vein of form going.”
This weekend should be fascinating when the league’s top scorers face the meanest defence.
Medway neighbours Hollands & Blair travel to Maidstone Road unbeaten since the opening day and with only six goals conceded in 10 games.
Lindsey said: “With that in mind it’s going to be a tough game but we’re looking forward to it.
“It’s a local derby, so that’s a bit of added spice.
“We’re respectful of them and we know we’ve got to be at our full potential in order to get anything.”
