I’ve had a decent record at Chesterfield over the years and long may that continue. I played at their old stadium and won there two or three years on the bounce.
Last year, for Leyton Orient, we nicked the win in the last minute despite going behind twice.
We head into the game pleased to have beaten Luton in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
It’s a competition I haven’t had too much involvement in over the years, having spent a lot of time in the Championship, but whatever the game we want to win.
I lost to the Gills last season while at Orient in the second round and I have never made the final or anything like that but we know there is a Wembley final on offer and that would be fantastic.
Whoever we get in the draw on Saturday, we will be right up for it.
Our league game last week ended in a 3-3 draw and we didn’t play to our best. The main thing is we didn’t lose, we got a point, and you have to take the positives out of it.
We started very well, we were well in control and got the feeling, ‘here we go’ we can win again. Unfortunately sometimes when you get a goal, a natural human reaction is to take the foot off the gas and maybe that was the case. But credit to Oldham, they caused us problems.
We hung in there, took the lead twice and then when they took the lead we bounced back and got the goal.
Hess got the equaliser. I was trying to set up a shot for myself but I had a few players around me, it was a bit too tight and I got tripped, I saw a blue shirt and I just tried to get it near him. As I looked up I saw the ball flying into the back of the net. It was a great strike.
We are frustrated with how we played but we picked up a point and we’re still unbeaten at home.
We’re sharing the goals out a bit this season but I’m yet to get off the mark.
I am not usually in there from corners or free-kicks, I’m usually protecting at the back or on the edge of the box, but still there is no reason why I shouldn’t chip in with one or two soon.
