It was good to see some of the young players taking part in Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy game against Luton.
I have been impressed with Darren Oldaker since I arrived at the club.
He is only young but he is going to be a good player and if he keeps his head down he will go far.
I didn’t know him before I came to Gillingham but when I saw a bit of him in pre-season I was surprised to hear how young he was.
Unfortunately, we lost the game but we’ve got a big one to look forward to now on Sunday, against Sheffield United.
We’re on television at the weekend and it’s not the first time I have played in a live televised game.
Last year, at Newport, the Welsh channel and BT Sport showed our match against Blackburn in the FA Cup and the year before when I was at Barnet, the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy game against Swindon was shown on Sky.
It doesn’t really affect us. It’s just another game. You don’t worry about the cameras when you’re playing.
Sheffield United haven’t started as they would have wanted but they got a decent result last weekend, beating Oxford United.
It’s going to be tough and they will be one of the favourites to go up this year. I think come towards the end of the season they will be there or thereabouts. They have a new manager this season with new faces and it’s probably taken some time to gel.
We got Tottenham in the draw for the EFL Cup third round and I am delighted.
We wanted a big team away from home, to experience playing inside a stadium like that. It’s a great draw and one for the gaffer to look forward to especially.
