Gillingham boss Mark Bonner has revealed his chairman’s light-hearted reaction to last week’s victory.
The Gills head to Morecambe this afternoon hoping to make it back-to-back victories at the start of Bonner’s tenure in League 2.
But Bonner disclosed the reaction of chairman Brad Galinson this week to their 4-1 success over Carlisle.
“I don’t really like texts or messages after a game,” explained the Gills boss.
“If you win and get a nice one then people that send them like the chairman, he has to send one when you lose and that’s awkward.
“I just said no contact is best and we’ll speak when we speak.
“He texted me on Sunday saying ‘I heard you don’t like texts, so this is a non-text to say well done on an excellent result, I wouldn’t want to discuss scoring goals, I wouldn’t want to discuss an excellent performance, and I wouldn’t want to discuss what a great start to the season it was, so congratulations, enjoy this non-text, I won’t send it again’.
“That’s Brad’s humour in a nutshell but he was happy, obviously. We won the first four games last year but it’s just a win.
“It’s an important one as it’s the first one and the type of win against who it was - massive. But it’s 1/46th of a season so I don’t get too excited by it.”
