Michael Baker finished third during his first senior international athletics meeting at the weekend.

The Lordswood teenager travelled to Villach in Austria and finished just outside his personal best time with 52.53secs in the 400m hurdles during the international meeting.

Baker, who runs for Medway and Maidstone AC, was representing England and he was happy with his performance and glad to have added further experience to his fledgling athletics career.

“It was a really good trip,” he said. “I was mixing with seniors who have raced in bigger and better competitions and it’s good to learn off these people and race against them.

“It’s all well and good doing it at junior and youth level but there’s no point if you’re no good at senior level. It was a good experience for me.”
