Young striker Noel Mbo has had his contract with the Gills cancelled.
The 19-year-old recently had a trial with Swedish top-flight side Helsingborgs.
Mbo, who moved to England from the Democratic Republic of Congo as a child, worked his way through Gills' academy to win a professional contract.
His only league appearance came off the bench on Boxing Day, introduced as an 89th minute substitute in the 2-0 win over Portsmouth.
The only other first team game he played in was against Crawley Town in the Checkatrade Trophy, starting the match with the Gills won 2-1.
A statement from the club said: "Gillingham FC would like to wish Noel Mbo all the best having left the club by mutual consent.
"Noel Mbo has today (Thursday) mutually agreed, along with the club, to cancel his contract at Priestfield Stadium with immediate effect."
Mbo's only other appearance for the first team came last season when he scored in the 7-5 win over Reading in a Football Trophy match,
The club statement went on to add that "everyone at the Football Club would like to thank Noel for his services and we wish him the best of luck in the future."
He signed a new one year deal in the summer but has recently been looking at options elsewhere.
In mid-February he appeared for Helsingborgs in a friendly match against Osters, playing 76 minutes after a week long trial.
