Gillingham boss Steve Evans had to watch Saturday’s game from the stands after a touchline ban.
Evans picked up his one-game ban following a yellow card in the EFL Trophy game against Cambridge United on Tuesday.
The midweek booking was Evans’ fourth of the season, handed out by referee David Rock following his protests over a decision at the Abbey Stadium.
Since the start of the 2018/19 season, yellow and red cards have been issued to members of the coaching staff for misconduct committed in the technical area.
Four yellow cards incurs an automatic one-game ban.
Ironically it’s the same ground that Evans first took charge of a competitive Gills game, in August last year, where he was serving a touchline suspension from his time as Peterborough boss after a run-in with referee David Coote. He ended up serving a four-game ban on that occasion.
He wasn’t happy with what he saw in the first half at the Keepmoat Stadium but encouraged after the turnaround.
