Invicta Dynamos get the chance to right some wrongs in Romford this Saturday before facing another testing challenge on home ice the following day.
Coach Karl Lennon knows both of their weekend opponents carry threats as the Mos look to build on their encouraging start to the 2023/24 NIHL South Division 1 season.
First up for the Mos is an away game against the Romford Buccaneers, a side they have already faced in Gillingham and beaten 7-3.
Lennon said: “They had a difficult weekend with a couple of losses and I am sure at home they will be trying to put that right.
“It is a different rink to ours, it’s wide, it’s new and there are not the same kicks off the board that we are expecting in our rink but it’s a great facility and we look forward to playing in there.
“Last year we had two losses there, which I was very unhappy about.
“Both games were pretty bad, one was an overtime loss where we were up by a few goals and they pulled it back, the other was a dismal performance.
“I had been away that week from training, the attitude wasn’t right on the day and it didn’t manifest into the result I wanted.
“I am sure they will be frustrated by their weekend and want to resolve that in some way by beating us. We will have to be sharp and ready to go.”
The Mos return to Gillingham on Sunday (5.45pm) for their first meeting of the season with the Slough Jets.
Both the Mos and Jets have picked up four points from their opening three games.
Lennon said: “They have started the season quite well and they had a win over Solent, in Solent, which we didn’t manage to do ourselves and they beat Oxford, so two away wins, which were quite comprehensive and very impressive.
“I know for sure that they will give us a really good game, they are a young, energetic team, their coach is fantastic. He plays hockey the right way, he has group of young, drilled hockey players that know what he expects of them.
“Defensively they are very solid and offensively they have a lot of talent.
“We will have to be at our very best to beat them on Sunday and that’s the goal, to win every game.”
The Mos will be without forward Josh Condren for several weeks after a knee injury in last Sunday’s 4-3 win against Chelmsford Chieftains.
Lennon said: “He had an X-ray and seemingly there wasn’t any obvious issues or damage but I think he will be out for a few weeks.”
Others are carrying knocks but Lennon said: “Hockey players are never 100% fit, just because of the nature of the sport, but early on in the season I don’t think the body is conditioned to play in it quite like maybe around Christmas time.
“The (knocks) sit on you a bit heavier, so once the guys get those out of the way and their second wind, they will be fine.”
