With injury behind him, Scott Wagstaff hopes he can now start enjoying himself at Gillingham.
The midfielder left Bristol City in the summer for a fresh start at a club that wanted him.
Wagstaff said: “When I came here in the summer I got that good vibe from the manager and you know that he wants you to be here.
“At this stage of my career I needed to be wanted and that is what most players are like, they want to be wanted. It’s like that in any walk of life and that was the main thing for me.
“I am 26 and need to be playing games. I wanted to get the enjoyment of football again.
“You can never guarantee coming into a team straight away but you would like to back yourself and I will try and do that.”
Wagstaff made his Gillingham debut last Saturday after coming on in the second half against Bradford.
He said: “It was great to get on in front of the home fans. It has been a long time coming.
“It has been a tough start for me, getting injured in the first pre-season game but it’s great to be out there now and hopefully I can get my match fitness up and help the team out.
“Saturday was good, just to get those minutes under my belt but the only way I will get that fitness back is by playing.
“It might take a couple of weeks to get back to match fitness but I am hoping that comes soon.”
