Gillingham defender Connor Ogilvie is confident of an upturn in fortunes.
Back to back defeats haven’t been helped by poor first half performances as the Gills slipped to a weekend defeat at Doncaster Rovers and followed it up with a first ever home league defeat to Accrington Stanley.
The Gills are targetting the play-offs this season and Ogilvie said: “If we want to be in that top six we need to be able to shut up shop and score goals. We haven’t done that in the last two games and we need to start doing that to climb the table.
“It is a busy period for us now, we just need to pick up as many points as we can.
“We have to keep each other motivated and upbeat and keep performing like we have in the last two games in the second half. We need to start like that to get results.
“With the players we have got I don’t see why we can’t compete higher up the table.
“The last two games haven’t been quite up to our standards but we need to work on that. We beat Bristol and Swindon (earlier this month) so we know we can do it.”
The Gills were a goal down on Tuesday and second best but came out with a spirited performance second half, only to concede a killer second goal against the run of play.
Ogilvie said: “It was probably one of our better performances, second half, but it just wasn’t good enough first half and two sloppy goals can cost you in this league. We just need to regroup now and get ready for Saturday. We need to turn the last two results around.
“It was a tale of two boxes (on Tuesday). You have to take your chances and shut up shop in your own box and we didn’t do that. We need to work on that and improve. I am sure we will. We have the players to do that and it is about getting back on the training ground now and working hard.”
