Gillingham head coach Ady Pennock insisted his team are still not out of danger despite a late comeback on Saturday.
The Gills looked to be heading for defeat against Scunthorpe until a nine-minute hat-trick of penalties by Josh Wright meant a dramatic turnaround.
Pennock’s side are now seven points clear of the League 1 relegation zone with just nine games left.
“I’m under no illusions,” he insisted. “There’s still a long way to go, we can’t rest on these games that we’ve been winning.
"We’ve got to get these points as quickly as we can because survival is what it’s all about. It’s (still) going to be tough until the end of the season.”
It was a third victory in four games for Gills, and the first time that they’ve won back-to-back matches under Pennock’s tenure.
The Gills head coach praised the Priestfield crowd for the role they played on an amazing day.
“The crowd sucked it in at the Rainham End,” said Pennock. “It was a special day, really special, and I’m glad that just like the last home game (against Southend) everyone stayed to the end.
“The players deserved the ovation they got. I think it was the loudest the crowd have been (since I took over) because of the way the game went."
Even at 2-0 down, Pennock still felt that his side could get something from the game as Scunthorpe arrived without a league win since the end of January.
“I promise you now I didn’t (give up) because goals change games,” said Pennock.
“They haven’t won in eight and when you get one goal, everyone says 2-0 is a dangerous scoreline and it’s a mental thing.
“We’ve got this never-say-die attitude. The character the players showed and the pride and passion they had for the shirt is what it’s all about.”
