Gillingham keeper Stuart Nelson remained upbeat despite suffering late heartache against rivals Charlton on Saturday.
The Gills were denied a welcome win after conceding a last-minute penalty.
Nelson came off the bench and saved one spot-kick before Charlton levelled the scores with another penalty.
Despite the late disappointment, which extended Gillingham’s winless run in League 1 to six games, Nelson said: “I think our form is turning around and that’s another game unbeaten.
“We came so close to getting three points that I think we deserved.”
While Charlton snatched a point with a late spot-kick, the Gills were denied two shouts for penalties of their own.
“A decision we didn’t get would have settled the game,” said Nelson.
“When things aren’t going quite right for you, you don’t get those decisions. But that is the only difference at the moment.
“We have to keep persisting with it and improving our form and those decisions will start to come.
“I honestly believe we are getting there. It has tightened up and teams are getting less and less chances, they are really having to work for their goals. We were giving them goals before.
“There will be a point when we are going to stop the goals (being conceded) and then give someone a good hiding at the other end.”
