England’s wheelchair rugby league team face France in a two-Test series at Medway Park this week.

The England squad includes several Kent-based players including a first call-up for Argonauts’ Freya Levy as the only female in the team.

These two matches, the first today (Wednesday) and the second on Saturday, will be crucial in the preparation for the delayed World Cup which takes place in Autumn 2022.

France are the reigning World Cup champions.

Levy - who has only recently taken up wheelchair rugby league - has previously represented England at wheelchair basketball and para ice hockey and is joined in the squad by Joe Coyd, Lewis King and Fred Nye, also from the Gravesend-based club.

Levy told rugby-league.com it’s an honour to have been selected and added: “The staff and squad have made me feel incredibly welcome and at home. I’m excited for what the future holds with this team, especially with the World Cup next year.”

Medway-based head coach Tom Coyd - brother of Joe - said: “Our preparation has been excellent and we’re excited to measure ourselves against the best in the world.”

Wednesday’s match in Gillingham is from 6.30pm-8.30pm while the match on Saturday begins at 4pm.

Both games are to be shown live n BBC iPlayer and the BBC sport website. Limited tickets are still available to book online or on the door one hour before kick off. Tickets cost £5 for adults, £2 for under-16s and £12 for a family ticket.
